Oh, to have boys. I took a stroll around the neighborhood with James, Joanna, and their two young sons and had the bright idea of incorporating something that they love into the shoot: riding their bikes! Before I knew it they took off, leaving me—and my lens—nowhere near close enough. When Joanna called for them to come back some paces, the oldest looked at us like, “but why would I undo progress?”

They climbed, and ran, and flipped their way through the morning with total exuberance. I was reminded how wonderful and how totally unexpected little ones can be.
